This program prepares candidates to teach English as a second language, developing the disciplinary, psycho-pedagogical, and complementary competencies required to teach English from the first year of elementary school through the end of secondary school, including immersion programs, welcome classes, intensive programs, and adult education. It leads to a Baccalauréat en éducation (Bachelor of Education) over 120 credits delivered across 8 sessions at the Rouyn-Noranda and Mont-Laurier campuses. Progressive, continuous professional insertion builds toward mastery of the thirteen professional competencies in Quebec's Reference Framework for Professional Competencies (MEQ, 2020), combining pedagogy coursework with supervised practicums. Admission requires an advanced-intermediate level of English proficiency, and all admitted students take the TOEFL ITP diagnostic test in their first week, which must be passed at the Independent User (CEFR B1) threshold set by the program before final admission is confirmed. Graduates receive a teaching certificate following a favourable recommendation from the university.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants may qualify through the collegial route (a Diploma of Collegial Studies or equivalent, plus an interview if required), the university-studies route (30 completed university credits), or the experience route (at least 21 years old, with at least six months of full-time or equivalent relevant experience in an educational institution, supported by an interview, proof of experience, and a statement of motivation). All routes require an advanced-intermediate level of English proficiency. In the first week of the program, all students take a diagnostic English test (TOEFL ITP, Level 1), which must be passed at the threshold set by the program - equivalent to Independent User, Threshold Level (CEFR B1) - before final admission to the program is confirmed. A declaration of criminal record is required for practicum placement and teaching certification.
