The Certificate in Employability and Career Development in Indigenous Contexts is a 30-credit undergraduate certificate offered by UQAT's School of Indigenous Studies. It prepares students to work as employment and career counsellors serving Indigenous clients, covering career development theories, job search strategies, group facilitation techniques, and descriptive psychopathology alongside a dedicated course on employability and ethics in Indigenous contexts. Students also complete introductory coursework on Indigenous history and contemporary issues, labour law and financial literacy, and the structure of Quebec's education system. Two sequential courses on helping relationships and counselling build interviewing and intervention skills specific to job search and career development. The program concludes with an integration activity applying course learning to real employability and career-development challenges within an Indigenous organization or community. All courses are offered at a distance. Graduates are prepared to support Indigenous job seekers with training, recruitment, retention, and career planning.
