Overview
This certificate in Journalism teaches the methods and techniques specific to journalistic practice, developing critical thinking alongside practical skills in writing, audio and video capture, and multimedia content creation. Students apply what they learn through the student newspaper L'Exemplaire and other course-based publications, gaining hands-on newsroom experience alongside coursework in media law and ethics. The 30-credit programme is designed to be completed in one year of full-time study. Admission requires either a minimum of three years of professional experience in journalism or a related field, or 60 completed university-level credits, in addition to a secondary or college credential, reflecting the programme's orientation toward applicants who already have academic or professional background in the field. Admission is offered for the Fall term only.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Quebec applicants need any DEC plus either a minimum of three years of professional experience in journalism or a related field, or 60 completed university-level credits. Applicants from elsewhere in Canada need a secondary school diploma plus one year of university study, plus the same experience or credit requirement. International applicants need 13 years of pre-university education, or 12 years plus one year of higher education, plus the same experience or credit requirement. Non-francophone applicants must score at least 600/699 on the mandatory sections of the Test de connaissance du français (TCF tout public) and at least 14/20 on the written expression component. Admission is for the Fall term only.
