This certificate examines North American francophone communities through history, ethnology, literature, communication and linguistics. It surveys the historical, political, cultural and linguistic character of French-speaking populations across Canada and the United States outside Quebec, alongside questions of francophone identity and inter-community exchange. The program totals 30 credits, with up to 15 credits eligible for recognition of prior learning. It is offered part-time only, with a minimum of three sessions to complete, and can be followed partially or entirely at a distance. Admission is offered for the Fall and Winter terms. The certificate suits students who want a focused credential in francophone studies as a complement to another discipline, or as a stand-alone continuing-education program. It is administered by Université Laval's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences under program director Martine Roberge.
