This certificate in Philosophy for Children draws on the work of philosopher Matthew Lipman to train students in using philosophical inquiry as an educational tool that promotes independent, clear, and rigorous thinking in children. Coursework covers the major branches of philosophical inquiry, including logic, ethics, metaphysics, aesthetics, and epistemology, and develops critical thinking, creative imagination, and collaborative dialogue-based teaching skills that can be applied directly in a classroom setting. The 30-credit programme is designed to be completed in one year of full-time study and is delivered synchronously and asynchronously at a distance, including two intensive weekends, with flexible full-time or part-time pacing. It is aimed at teachers and education professionals working with children. Admission is offered for the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.
