Universite Laval's PhD in Social Work is oriented toward completion of a doctoral thesis and provides solid theoretical, methodological and analytical training in social work. The program allows students to deepen their understanding of social problems, intervention practices and social policies through independent research. It comprises 90 credits, with an estimated full-time duration of four years, leading to a Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.). Admission is normally based on a master's degree in social work or social services completed with a thesis, or an equivalent diploma; a master's with an intervention project or essay, a master's in a related discipline, or a combination of studies and experience judged equivalent by the program director may also be considered. Applicants must have a program or graduation average of at least 3.30 on 4.33, or equivalent, and must demonstrate English proficiency along with French proficiency for non-francophone candidates. The regular intake is in the fall term, with exceptional admission possible in winter or summer.
