The Industrial Welding certificate at University College of the North gives students the practical skills and technical knowledge needed for entry-level employment in the welding trade. Over eight months at the The Pas campus, students train in arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding, brazing, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and arc-air cutting, with strong emphasis on occupational safety and workplace practices. Good manual dexterity, eyesight, and mechanical aptitude support success in the program. Delivery is in-person, running from October to June. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in fabrication shops, maintenance departments, and repair facilities, and students who maintain a minimum 70 percent grade in all courses can pursue an indentured apprenticeship toward journeyperson welding certification.
