University College of the North's Diploma in Practical Nursing is a two-year program delivered at its Thompson, Flin Flon, and Swan River locations, combining classroom instruction with clinical placements. Coursework covers human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, foundational and medical/surgical nursing practice, family and community nursing, mental health nursing, health assessment, pharmacotherapeutics, communications, and Aboriginal studies content. Clinical rotations run throughout both years of the program, and students are required to relocate during the second year for placements in specialized areas such as surgery, obstetrics, and mental health nursing. Manitoba and Saskatchewan residents receive admission priority. The program suits students seeking a direct path to practical nursing licensure. Graduates are prepared to pursue licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse and typically work in tertiary, acute, and community hospitals, long-term care facilities, personal care homes, medical clinics, and home care settings.

Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:University College of the North does not publish a fixed application-submission deadline for domestic Canadian applicants; its admissions pages list program start dates such as 8 September 2026 but direct applicants to campus recruitment officers rather than a closing date, so admission functions as rolling until programs fill. International applicants must have a complete application, including WES verification, submitted by 1 April each academic year; UCN states this deadline applies annually rather than only to the 2026-27 cycle, and does not describe international admission as rolling. No provincial application service is used; applicants apply directly to UCN. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
