Overview
This is a Bachelor of Education (BEd) in Secondary Education with a major or minor in Music, offered at the University of Alberta's Campus Saint-Jean, the province's only French-language postsecondary institution. The program prepares students to teach grades 7 through 12 (ages 12 to 18) in Francophone or French-immersion secondary schools, combining pedagogical coursework with a chosen major and minor. The Music concentration covers areas such as instrumental ensemble, aural skills, music theory, woodwind and brass techniques, percussion techniques, choral techniques and pedagogy, and conducting. Instruction takes place at Campus Saint-Jean, which offers small class sizes, academic scholarships, and research opportunities. An after-degree route to the same credential is also offered for students who already hold a prior degree. Graduates commonly pursue roles such as secondary music teacher, education administrator, education consultant, guidance counsellor, extracurricular coordinator, or special-education teacher.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Alberta high school; instruction is in French, so French proficiency is required. Required Grade 12 courses: one French course (Francais 30-1, Francais 30-2, French 30-9Y, French 31, or French Language Arts 30-1/30-2) and one further course from English Language Arts 30-1, Humanities, or Languages other than English.
