Overview
The Bachelor of Music (Performance) is a non-direct-entry route within the University of Alberta's Bachelor of Music program, focused on solo instrumental or vocal study and performance. Students normally enter this route at the end of their second year in the Bachelor of Music (General) program, subject to a minimum 2.3 admission GPA on completed BMus coursework, a grade of A- or higher in MUSIC 225, and the recommendation of the Department of Music. Candidates may major on piano, organ, voice, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, classical guitar, lute, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, percussion or harp. Public recitals are required in each of the final two years of study. Entry to the overall Bachelor of Music program depends on a successful performance audition and a music rudiments placement test. The program gives students access to specialized instructional resources and performance opportunities within the Department of Music, suiting musicians who have completed initial BMus coursework and want to specialize in solo performance on a chosen instrument or voice.
