Program details
Overview
Crop Science is a major within the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Guelph, covering the science and technology behind crop production. Coursework spans precision agriculture, protein and oil seed crops, and grain crops, alongside pest management, plant genetics, biotechnology, and crop physiology. Students select courses aligned with their interests, whether in producing field crops for food, fuel, or biomaterials, or in breeding improved crop varieties. Learning combines classroom instruction with field trips, experiential learning placements, and independent study projects. A co-operative education option is available as a five-year program with four work terms, alternating academic study with paid placements in the agriculture sector. Graduates pursue careers in crop production, agronomy, plant breeding, agricultural research, and related roles in the agriculture and agri-food industry, or continue to graduate study in plant science and related disciplines.
