The Master of Science in Soil Science is offered by the Department of Soil Science at the University of Manitoba as a thesis-based graduate program. Students complete a minimum of 12 credit hours of coursework alongside their thesis research, including the required course SOIL 7220 (3 credit hours) and at least nine further credit hours, of which a minimum of three must be 7000-level Soil Science courses. Before admission, applicants must demonstrate nine credit hours in fundamental and applied soil sciences, three credit hours in experimental design and statistical analysis, and adequate communication skills, all normally at the senior undergraduate or graduate level. The Soil Science Graduate Studies Committee and the Department Head evaluate each applicant's academic background for adequacy, and a strong foundation in soil science or in the basic sciences underlying the student's proposed area of study is expected. General admission requirements follow those of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Full-time students can expect to complete the program in two to two and a half years.
