Master of Applied Science in Biomedical Engineering is offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Biomedical Engineering (OCIBME), established in 2006, which combines the teaching and research strengths of seven academic units across the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The program is multidisciplinary, with main research fields including medical instrumentation, biomedical image processing, biomechanics and biomaterials, medical informatics, and telemedicine. Students have access to professors, courses and facilities at both institutions, but enroll at the home university of their thesis supervisor. Admission requires a bachelor's degree with a specialization or a major (or equivalent) in engineering, science, computer science, or a related discipline, with a minimum admission average of 75% (B+), along with evidence of good academic performance such as transcripts, research reports or abstracts demonstrating research skills. Applicants must be able to understand, speak and write English fluently, and non-native speakers must provide proof of language proficiency. Full-time students are expected to complete the program within two years.
