The Doctor of Philosophy in Geological Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan is a research-based, thesis program supporting advanced study across geochemistry, geophysics, paleontology, mineralogy, structural geology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, and related fields. Students use specialized laboratories, including the Saskatchewan Isotope Laboratory, Electron Microprobe Laboratory, and X-ray Diffraction Laboratory, as well as advanced computing facilities and the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, to deepen understanding of Earth's physical, chemical, and biological systems. A faculty supervisor must be secured before a student can be admitted to the program. Funded students are generally accepted only when their supervisor can provide funding. The program has an expected length of four years, is delivered in person, and successful applicants are considered for departmental support or scholarships on the basis of merit.
