Overview
The Coding Skills associate certificate is open to people with at least two years of computing education. It's designed to boost your existing skills, so you'll need to show a portfolio of your work to be admitted. In the Coding Skills associate certificate, you'll complete five advanced software development courses. You'll tackle subjects such as algorithm design, software engineering, and coding best practices. One of your courses will be a three-credit field practicum experience.

Admission Requirements: Admission has two routes: general entry to UFV's Computer Information Systems programmes (B.C. secondary graduation, mature-student status at 19+, or nine post-secondary credits at a 2.00 CGPA, plus a Grade-12-level math course and the CMNS 125/CMNS 175/ENGL 105 English prerequisite); or successful completion of UFV's CIS diploma (or an equivalent) with COMP 251 at B or better, or the first two years of a Computer Science major. All applicants must submit a shareable online portfolio demonstrating proficiency across three different programming languages, specialization in an area such as AI, graphics, web, information security or mobile, and evidence of team-oriented development practices (issue tracking, version control, continuous integration) and code/documentation quality. No standardized English-language test score is stated for this certificate beyond the general CIS English-course prerequisite. Admission is competitive, ranked on GPA and portfolio quality, with entry points in Fall, Winter and Summer.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
