Anthropology (HBSc) is offered by the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto Mississauga, awarding an Honours Bachelor of Science through the Specialist (ERSPE0105) or Major (ERMAJ0105) Program in Anthropology (Science). Anthropology studies humankind from its origins to the present through comparative and holistic study across geographic space and evolutionary time, covering the traditional four subfields of archaeology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology, with departmental strengths in forensic anthropology and the anthropology of health. Students take ANT101H5 and ANT102H5 in first year, then choose a Subject POSt after completing 4.0 credits; upper years combine at least 2.0 credits of anthropology science courses with requirements at the 300- and 400-level, and students may tailor their studies toward health, evolution, forensics, or archaeology. Two teaching laboratories give students access to archaeological artifacts, fossil casts, and human skeletal collections, and students can pursue forensic-anthropology and archaeological field schools. The program prepares graduates for careers and further study in museums, cultural resource management, public health, and academia.
