Hons in Jewish Studies (HBA)

Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto St. George campus is offered as a Specialist, Major, or Minor through the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, within the Faculty of Arts & Science. The program situates the cultural, social, and economic diversity of Jews and Judaism within broader historical and cultural contexts, covering Jewish history from ancient to contemporary periods, Jewish literary and artistic traditions, and Jewish languages including Modern Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew, and Yiddish, alongside Jewish thought, theology, philosophy, mysticism, antisemitism and Holocaust studies, and Israel studies. All three programs require foundational coursework in CJS200H1 or CJS201H1 plus electives from approved course lists. The Specialist requires 10.0 credits with 4.0 at the 300+ level (at least 1.0 at the 400-level); the Major requires 6.5 credits with 2.0 at the 300+ level (at least 0.5 at the 400-level); the open-enrolment Minor requires 4.0 credits with at least 1.0 at the 300+ level. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U/M-level courses including English.
