Hons in Renaissance Studies (HBA)

Renaissance Studies is offered at the University of Toronto St. George campus, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Arts, and is available as a Specialist, Major, or Minor. The interdisciplinary program studies the history, literature, art, and thought of the Renaissance period, drawing on coursework in literature (English, French, Italian, or Spanish), history, and art history alongside dedicated Renaissance Studies (REN) courses. The Major requires 6.0 credits, with no more than 1.0 credit at the 100-level and at least 2.0 credits at the 300-level or higher, built around a foundation course (REN240H1 with REN244H1 or REN245H1, or REN240Y1), 1.5 credits of electives, a 1.0-credit literature component, a 1.0-credit history component, a 1.0-credit art history component, and a capstone course, REN440H1. The program is open-enrolment: a student who has completed 4.0 credits may enrol. It prepares students for further study or careers in the humanities, history, and cultural heritage fields.
