Black Studies at Queen's University is offered by the Department of Gender Studies as an interdisciplinary undergraduate field of study, examining Black life, history, and culture across multiple disciplinary perspectives rather than through a single field. Students can pursue a three-year General degree (Bachelor of Arts), a stand-alone plan totalling 90.0 units, or a Minor (BLCK-Y, 24.0 units) that is completed alongside a Major in another discipline as part of a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Computing, Bachelor of Fine Art, or Bachelor of Science Honours degree. Students apply to either the General or Minor plan after completing their first year at Queen's, or later in their academic career. Coursework introduces students to scholarship by and about Black people and to the study of liberation from a range of disciplinary angles, reflecting the field's roots both inside and outside the university. Full course listings are available through the department's Black Studies course pages.
