Visual Studies is offered by the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto St. George campus, leading to a Bachelor of Arts. The program applies creative thinking and critical analysis to design, media, and visual culture across digital and physical environments. All students begin in the Major in Visual Studies in first year; after completing 4.0 credits, students may request one of two Specialist streams, Studio (AHSPE2001) or Critical Practices (AHSPE2002), or continue with the Major alongside a second Major or two Minors. Coursework draws on studio practice, design theory, and visual and material culture, with courses cross-listed with Fine Art History. Graduates of the Visual Studies Major pair their studies with a second program area to complete their degree, while Specialist students concentrate more deeply in studio production or critical and curatorial analysis. The program prepares students for further study and careers across design, media, curatorial practice, and visual culture fields.
