Overview
The Master of Visual Studies (MVS) is offered by the University of Toronto's John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. It is a two-year, full-time professional program with two fields of study: Curatorial Studies and Studio. The Curatorial Studies field is structured around historical and contemporary approaches to curatorial practice; students work toward a Graduating Exhibition and a Qualifying Paper in the form of a catalogue essay. The Studio field examines increasingly complex modes of visual expression through combinations of text, image, movement, sound, and dynamic new electronic media, giving students the opportunity to develop skills across a variety of projects and media. The program is intended for students seeking advanced, practice-based training in contemporary art and curatorial practice within a research university setting.
