Health Studies examines the social and physical determinants of health, including health promotion, public health, epidemiology, and program evaluation, alongside the social justice, political, and cultural dimensions of health. The program is offered by the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies as a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), available in Specialization and Major plans, with a Minor also offered. Recommended first-year courses include Health Studies 101 and 102 and Psychology 100. Students combine lecture-based learning with fourth-year seminars exploring contemporary topics in Health Studies, and a Community-Based Programming and Evaluation course that applies health theory to work with community partners. A research course sequence progresses from Research Methods through a Research Internship in a faculty lab or program to a fourth-year Honours Thesis Project. Graduates pursue paths in public health, health promotion, epidemiology, global health, counselling, health education, and related government, health care, education, and non-profit careers, as well as further study in fields such as medicine, nursing, or social work.
