Mathematics and Its Applications: Teaching is an Honours Bachelor of Science Specialist program in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto's St. George campus, directed toward students interested in teaching at the elementary or secondary level who want a strong mathematics background for the classroom. It is an open-enrolment program: a student may enrol once they have completed 4.0 credits, typically after first-year analysis, algebra, and programming courses. The Specialist requires 10.5 to 11.0 credits, including a minimum of 1.0 credit at the 400-level, across five areas: fundamentals (calculus/analysis/proofs, algebra, differential equations, programming, and probability/statistics), 0.5 credit addressing ethics and social responsibility, teaching-focused mathematics courses (elementary mathematics concepts, history of mathematics, and topics courses), advanced mathematics (groups and symmetries, complex variables, and advanced topics), and further 400-level mathematics or approved graduate-course electives. Students may complete the program through the optional Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) co-op stream. Admission from Ontario secondary school requires an OSSD with six Grade 12 4U/M courses, including English and Calculus & Vectors.
