Overview
Paramedicine is a joint program between the University of Toronto Scarborough and Centennial College, combining an Honours Bachelor of Science degree with an Ontario College Diploma over four years of full-time study. The curriculum pairs academic coursework with hands-on training, simulation labs, and clinical and field placements, preparing graduates to write the Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (AEMCA) certification exam. Admission is open only to domestic applicants — Canadian citizens, permanent residents, Indigenous persons, or protected persons — applying directly from secondary school, with no prior post-secondary study permitted. Candidates must submit a supplementary application, which may include an interview, alongside prerequisite courses in English, Biology, and Mathematics. Chemistry is recommended. Graduates are prepared to work as primary care and advanced care paramedics within Ontario's emergency medical services system.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/M-level subjects, including English, and must present English (ENG4U or EAE4U), Biology (SBI4U), and one of Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), or Data Management (MDM4U); Chemistry is recommended. The co-op component of Grade 12 courses is not counted toward admission. A minimum of 70% in English is required, with typical admitted averages in the low 80s.
