Overview
The Bachelor of Social Work Degree will allow you to make a difference in your community. This program nurtures accountable and critically engaged social work education, research and practice in the advancement of decolonization, anti-racism, Indigenous resurgence, feminism, 2SLGBTQ+ liberation struggles, disability justice and other social justice struggles.

Admission Requirements: Entry is by transfer only: apply to the Faculty of Social Sciences and move into Social Work after two or more years of study. Domestic transfer applicants need 20 or more university-transfer courses, equal to 30 UVic units or 60 credits, with "B-" (4.00 on UVic's 9-point scale) across the most recent 12 UVic units/24 credits. International transfer applicants need two full years of a bachelor's degree at a recognised university with "B" (5.00) over the most recent 12 UVic units. Both groups must have completed SOCW 200A and SOCW 200B, or their equivalents; admission averages count repeated and failed courses. The School of Social Work also requires a statement of intent, setting out how the program fits your interests and background, and an experience summary covering relevant employment, volunteer and educational experience, both by 31 January on the School's own submission forms, which are refreshed each December. All applicants must satisfy UVic's English language requirement: transcripts alone suffice after four years of full-time English-medium study in Canada, otherwise a test is needed (IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section under 20, CAEL 70, Duolingo 120, PTE Academic 65, Cambridge C1/C2 180 or four-skill MET 64).

Application Deadline:31 January for September entry — UVic's institution-wide deadline for most degree programs, the same date for Canadian and international applicants. The School of Social Work additionally requires a statement of intent and an experience summary by 31 January, on submission forms it reissues each December. UVic states these are annual fixed dates and warns that a program can stop accepting applications at any time without notice, while some programs keep accepting them past the published date.
