Industrial Ecology: Master of Engineering (MEng) is a master's degree in Environmental Engineering programme offered by University of Victoria in Victoria, Canada. The programme runs for 1 year, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 26,000 per total (CAD 19,000 per total for local students).
The Master of Engineering in Industrial Ecology at the University of Victoria is a project-based professional master's with no thesis, emphasising research-intensive, sustainability-focused and interdisciplinary work. Students develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of sustainable development, including the economic, political and regulatory influences that shape it, and undertake a graduate project in industrial ecology in the final term. Graduates are expected to assemble and compute energy and material flows across an industrial society at a range of scales, frame and apply systems approaches to the environmental and economic impacts of infrastructure, plan and analyse systems for material reuse and recycling, and explain how industrial ecology methods apply in business, economic and public policy contexts. The program runs one year full-time on campus and is supported across Civil Engineering, Earth and Ocean Sciences, Environmental Studies, Mechanical Engineering, Public Administration and the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:6.00 / 9.0
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Industrial Ecology MEng is open to applicants from several undergraduate backgrounds: most hold a degree in engineering, but the program also accepts science, geography, environmental studies, business or economics graduates, provided they have strong math and calculus skills. Alongside transcripts, the application requires a letter of intent, a current curriculum vitae, and two assessment reports from academic or professional references. The program page states no minimum grade-point average or English-language test scores of its own, so the Faculty of Graduate Studies' general admission requirements apply: a minimum B average over the last two years of a prior degree, and, for applicants whose first language is not English, IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 overall with no section below 20 (scores valid for two years), unless a higher departmental threshold is later specified.
