Overview
Music is an undergraduate program in the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Arts. About 40 percent of coursework is drawn from Music courses covering performance, music theory and music history, alongside electives connecting music to topics such as technology, gender, peace, and the psychology of music, with analytical study extending to popular music, jazz, opera and film scores. The remaining coursework can be chosen from more than 100 other subject areas at the university. An audition is not required to declare a Music major, but students registering for a Music studio course or pursuing the Performance Specialization must arrange an audition during the first week of classes. Ontario applicants are admitted with six Grade 12 U/M courses, including any Grade 12 U English with a minimum final grade of at least 70%. Admission averages are set through individual selection, typically in the high 70s.
