Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreation Management at the University of Waterloo combines sport and business studies. About half of the required courses are in Recreation and Leisure Studies, covering topics such as the business of professional sport and event planning and design, while the other half covers core business fundamentals such as human resources management and entrepreneurship. The program includes field trips to professional sport facilities and hands-on assignments with industry case studies and projects. It takes four years to complete as a full-time student in the regular format, or five years with a co-op option that adds close to two years of paid work experience. Most required courses are delivered in person rather than online. Graduates pursue careers in marketing and communications, game operations, event management, facilities management, and human resources, working for sports and entertainment companies, professional sports teams, nonprofit and community organizations, and large for-profit companies.
