Applied Music: Bachelor's Degree (BMus)

Admission Requirements: This degree builds on VCC's Music Diploma: entry needs that diploma or an equivalent completed with a minimum 'B' average and a minimum 'A-' in the specialised performance or academic area. You submit a written proposal to the School of Music setting out your goals and proposed programme of work and explaining how the degree fits your career plans, plus two letters of recommendation from people who are neither family nor close acquaintances and who can speak to your ability to carry out that plan, dated no more than three months before the application deadline. Performance applicants audition in their specialised area; composition applicants present three short works of five to eight minutes or a single work of at least twenty minutes, composed in the twelve months before applying; applicants taking the academic stream submit two 3,500-word papers or studies written in the same twelve-month period instead of auditioning. Applicants whose first language is not English and who present foreign documents must take the VCC English language assessment, where the minimum is a total of 145 with Speaking 27 of 30, Listening 27 of 30, an essay score of 16 of 30 and Reading 50 of 70; VCC notes that this assessment is currently unavailable and asks applicants to contact the Music department for alternatives. VCC states this programme is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents and directs international students to VCC International, which lists separately the programmes open to them.
