Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Technician certificate provides learning in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools and techniques used in the mechanical processes for mining, energy, chemical processing, and fabrication as well as building systems and commercial development. You will learn to apply concepts in orthographic projection, sectioning, dimensioning, auxiliary view, and machine detailing; employ Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and three-dimensional (3D) modelling systems skills to produce drawings from data, designs, and/or specifications; apply concepts of building construction and technology to plan and detail commercial and industrial facilities in accordance with local by-laws and the BC Building Code, and more.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: VCC's programme catalogue now lists this credential under the name Mechanical Drafting Technician Certificate; the stored programme's own URL redirects there. Admission requires Grade 12 graduation or equivalent, English proficiency at a grade-12 level or CLB/CLBPT Listening 8, Speaking 7, Reading 8 and Writing 7, and mathematics shown either by Workplace Mathematics 11 or equivalent or by VCC's own Math Assessment with 80% on Basic Arithmetic and 60% on Basic Algebra. Applicants short of the English bar may still be admitted after an in-person interview at the department's discretion. Those who completed high-school Drafting 11 and 12, or VCC's CAD Technician Short Certificate within the last four years, can apply for direct entry into term 2. General VCC conditions — citizenship/PR status, age 16 or older or secondary graduation, and submitted transcripts — apply throughout.
