Overview
Western University's undergraduate Engineering program begins with a Common First Year taken by all incoming engineering students, covering shared foundational coursework before students choose a specialization. From second year, students select one of nine disciplines: Artificial Intelligence Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering. Co-operative education is optional and flexible, offered as a short four-month placement (typically May to August) or a longer twelve-to-sixteen-month placement, letting students choose the format that fits their academic plan. Admission Requirements: Western's Engineering program page publishes no prerequisite list or average of its own and instead points applicants to Western's general admission-requirements finder. Per Western's Ontario-applicant policy for engineering and science-based programmes, admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U/M courses covering the program's prerequisites, including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U); admission is competitive on the applicant's top-six average rather than a fixed cut-off. All first-year students complete a shared Common First Year before choosing a discipline-specific option in year three. International applicants must additionally meet Western's institution-wide proof-of-English-proficiency policy: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 83 with no section below 20 (for tests before January 21, 2026), among other accepted tests, unless exempt.

Application Deadline:Western applies through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre, which opens for Fall 2027 entry in late September 2026; Western's own equal-consideration deadline for full-time undergraduate study is 15 January 2027, the same date used for domestic (OUAC 101/105) and international applicants alike, since Western publishes no separate international closing date. Several named programmes carry their own earlier deadlines within the cycle: Medicine (MD) closes 1 October 2026, Law (JD) and Dentistry (DDS) close 1 November 2026, Education (BEd) closes 2 November 2026, and Western Integrated Science closes in early April 2027. Students already enrolled in an Ontario high school cannot be required to respond to an offer before 1 June 2027. Admission is not rolling: applicants are assessed against these published deadlines. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
