Data Science is an Honours Specialization jointly offered by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences in Western University's Faculty of Science. The 10-course module opens with a 3.5-course core spanning Data Science 2000A/B, Computer Science 2210A/B-2212A/B and Statistical Sciences 2857A/B, 2858A/B and 2864A/B, covering programming, data structures and statistical methods, plus a choice among further computer-science or mathematics courses. Upper-year study comprises 4.0 courses built around Data Science 3000A/B together with further Computer Science and Statistical Sciences courses addressing topics such as algorithms, statistical inference and applied data analysis. Entry requires first-year calculus, a mathematics course, and introductory computer science courses completed with course-specific minimum marks. Teaching is based on Western's main campus in London, Ontario. The module suits students aiming toward careers or graduate study in data science, statistics, machine learning or related analytics fields.

Admission Requirements: Completion of first-year requirements with no failures, with an average of at least 70% across 3.0 principal courses and no mark below 60% in any of them, including: Calculus 1000A/B or 1500A/B, together with Calculus 1501A/B (or Calculus 1301A/B with a mark of at least 85%); Mathematics 1600A/B or 1700A/B; Computer Science 1026A/B or Data Science 1200A/B (either with a mark of at least 65%); and Computer Science 1027A/B (with a mark of at least 65%), plus 0.5 additional principal course. Data Science 1000A/B or a Statistical Sciences course is recommended. International applicants whose first language is not English must meet Western's standard undergraduate English-language proficiency requirement, e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0.
