Hons in Gender and Women's Studies

Honours Specialization in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies is an undergraduate program in Western University's Faculty of Arts and Humanities, leading to an Honours Bachelor's degree. The module totals 9.0 courses, including GSWS 2220E, GSWS 3320F/G, a course selected from designated 3000-level GSWS options, a further GSWS or Black Studies course at the 2000 level or above, three GSWS or Black Studies courses at the 2200 level or above, two at the 3000 level or above, and one at the 4000 level; up to 2.0 courses may be substituted from other departments with departmental approval. Coursework examines gender, sexuality, and women's experiences through feminist, intersectional, and critical theoretical frameworks, preparing graduates for further study or careers in fields such as social policy, education, community advocacy, and the humanities and social sciences. Entry to the module requires completion of first-year requirements with no failures and an average of at least 70% (no mark below 60%) in 3.0 principal courses including GSWS 1020E or two specified alternative courses.
