Overview
This four-year Bachelor of Science in Data Science is delivered in person on Wilfrid Laurier University's Waterloo campus. The curriculum combines mathematics, statistics, and computer science, opening with first-year courses in programming, data structures, calculus, linear algebra, and introductory data analytics. Upper-year study extends into discrete mathematics, probability, regression analysis, machine learning, and data mining. Students choose one of three concentrations, in Big Data, Financial Risk Analysis, or Statistical Analysis, and can add a minor to further shape the degree. Co-op is optional: students may apply after their first year to complete three paid work terms of twelve to sixteen weeks each during the program. The degree is aimed at students who want to work with datasets in roles such as data scientist, data engineer, or data architect across sectors including finance, insurance, marketing, and healthcare, as well as those planning to continue into graduate study in a related quantitative field.
