This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Linguistics, offered full-time or part-time. Students study how language works, from sounds and sentence structure to meaning and communication, examining how languages are formed, how they change over time and how people acquire language from childhood. The curriculum also covers sociolinguistics, language diversity and applications of linguistics in artificial intelligence, giving students an analytical toolkit for studying human language across social and technological contexts. Entry is available in fall, winter and summer for both first-year and upper-year applicants. The program suits students interested in the structure and social life of language who want a research-oriented foundation for careers or further study in linguistics, language teaching, speech-language sciences, computational linguistics or related fields.
