Overview
The Language Proficiency Certificate at York University lets students build formally recognised proficiency in a foreign language alongside their other studies, with courses available in nine languages: Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek, Modern Hebrew, Portuguese, Spanish and Modern Korean. Current York University students can earn a certificate of proficiency concurrently with completing the requirements of a bachelor's degree. The certificate of proficiency may also be open to applicants who already hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and who are admissible under Faculty and University policies. Study is part-time, with the certificate's study session offered in the Fall term. It gives students a discrete, transcript-recognised credential in a chosen language rather than requiring a full language major or minor, a flexible way to formally document language ability alongside a primary degree.
