The PhD program in Psychology at York University is one of the largest and most diverse graduate programs of its kind in Canada, organized into seven areas of specialization: Brain, Behaviour, and Cognitive Science; Developmental Science; History & Theory; Quantitative Methods; Social & Personality; Clinical; and Clinical-Developmental. Applicants select a primary and, optionally, a secondary area of research interest at the point of application. The program also offers diploma options in Neuroscience, Health Psychology, and Statistics that students can add to customize their doctoral training. Research within the program is supported by the university's research centres and by collaborative partnerships with organizations ranging from local hospitals to NASA. Admission is for Fall entry as a full-time student, and the application requires a statement of interest specifying the applicant's areas of interest, a minimum B+ average, and, for applicants whose first language is not English, the required English-language test scores.

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a minimum B+ average and are admitted for Fall entry as full-time students. English-language proficiency is required for applicants whose primary language is not English: TOEFL iBT 100 (or 5 on the new MyBest scale for tests taken from January 2026), IELTS Academic 7.5, Duolingo English Test 140, and PTE Academic 76. Applicants must submit a statement of interest specifying their primary and secondary areas of research interest.
