This program focuses on French literatures and the evolution of ideas and literary fields, together with research training in French linguistics. It offers a double specialization in French Literature and French Linguistics, with all courses taught in French across York's two campuses. The Master's program runs five terms of full-time study and is one of the few graduate programs in Ontario offering advanced study of French literature and linguistics entirely in French. Students develop research and analytical skills through coursework and a major research paper or thesis in their chosen specialization. The program sits within the Department of French Studies and the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and is intended for students who already hold close-to-native written proficiency in French, since instruction, assignments and the admission application itself are conducted in French.
