The Graduate Diploma in Comparative Literature provides official accreditation of the comparative, multilingual, cross-cultural nature of a student's graduate training at York University and is available on a concurrent or stand-alone basis to students in relevant graduate programs. Candidates complete a three-credit seminar, Comparative and World Literature Seminar: History and Practice, one course in cultural theory, and either three research papers with comparative cultural content or a major thesis or dissertation, together with a supervised capstone research paper. Diploma holders must demonstrate academic competence in two languages other than English, and study abroad for at least one semester in a non-English-speaking country is recommended, though not required. The diploma is designed to develop and reinforce professional skills that prepare graduates for a global, multilingual job market.
