The Graduate Diploma in Mathematics Education focuses on mathematics education as an area of study grounded in critical examination of teaching practice, learning theories, and curriculum, and supported by analyses of socio-cultural, equity, and gender issues in the teaching and learning of mathematics. It is designed to provide opportunities for graduate-level study of theories and research in mathematics education, along with enriched mathematical experiences, for practising teachers and administrators and for people in the community whose work involves developing mathematical literacies. The Diploma is jointly offered by the Graduate Program in Education and is available both as an area of concentration within Master's and Doctoral degrees (Degree Concurrent option) and as a stand-alone Graduate Diploma (Direct Entry option). Concurrent candidates must apply to and be accepted as graduate students in the Faculty of Education's Graduate Program in Education: Language, Culture and Teaching, while direct-entry applicants apply to the specific diploma within the Faculty of Education's Graduate Program. The direct-entry, stand-alone diploma requires 12 credits, must be completed on a part-time basis, and does not carry eligibility for student funding.
