At Yukon University in Whitehorse, Canada, Yukon Native Teacher Education Program (Bachelor of Education) is offered as a bachelor's degree in Education & Teaching programme. The programme runs for 4 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 400 per credit (CAD 152 per credit for local students).
The Yukon Native Teacher Education Program leads to a Bachelor of Education, credentialed through the University of Regina, over 120 credits delivered mainly from the Whitehorse (Ayamdigut) campus, combining fall and winter coursework, online study, and off-campus components. The curriculum is grounded in culturally responsive teaching, reconciliation, and decolonization, covering education for justice, cross-cultural education, First Nations cultures and values, Indigenous land-based education, and subject-specific teaching methods across literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, health, physical education, and the arts. Field experience includes a four-week spring practicum in a rural community, a one-week summer cultural camp, and a sixteen-week teaching internship. The program suits Indigenous students and others committed to First Nations education and reconciliation in schools. Graduates become qualified teaching professionals eligible to meet certification requirements in Yukon, Saskatchewan, and elsewhere in Canada, joining an educational tradition focused on supporting Indigenous students and communities.
