Yukon University's Environmental Monitoring Certificate prepares students for entry-level field work with First Nation and other governments, industry, field researchers, and environmental services companies. The 10-course, 18-month program is delivered through week-long modules combining campus instruction with field school placements, allowing students to continue working or caring for family between sessions. Coursework covers environmental sampling, GPS navigation, and data collection methods, and integrates First Nation traditional knowledge alongside western scientific approaches. Applicants who do not meet the standard prerequisites may still qualify through Open Studies coursework or conditional acceptance. All program seats are reserved for Northern First Nation students. Graduates are equipped to support environmental monitoring, land assessment, and resource management work across the Yukon and other northern regions, and must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average to graduate.
