The Northern Outdoor and Environmental Studies Diploma is a two-year, multidisciplinary program examining contemporary environmental issues and human-environment relationships, with an emphasis on northern systems. Coursework covers land use and interpretation, resource depletion and stewardship, wilderness protection and fragmentation, biodiversity, pollution and contaminants, and climate change, approached through ecological, socio-cultural, political, economic and philosophical inquiry. Students complete 60 credits, including required courses in English, First Nations competency, and science, plus electives and Northern Studies coursework, with at least six courses at the 200 level or above. A minimum of 50% of the credential must be completed at Yukon University, and students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0. Courses are offered face-to-face and online, with full-time and part-time study options. The program admits students in September and January.
