BA/BS in Íþróttafræði

Íþróttafræði (sport science) is a three-year Bachelor of Science programme in the Department of Sport Science at Reykjavik University. Exchange study is possible, but distance learning is not offered. The undergraduate programme covers the basics of coaching, such as physiology, kinesiology and psychology. Students carry these foundations into more advanced courses, including training theory and performance testing, where they learn to apply the concepts both in theory and in the field. They also learn basic teaching skills and regularly use them in real situations. Much of the material is available online, supplemented by lectures, workshops and projects, and the university emphasises constructive feedback on assignments rather than grades alone. There are many practical sessions and chances to gain field experience. The facilities include equipment for measuring maximal oxygen uptake and lactate production, weights and training gear, a body-composition analyser, field measuring devices such as timing gates and jump mats, and a force meter. Classrooms and study rooms are open around the clock.
