Sport science and management is a two-year MSc programme in the Department of Sport Science at Reykjavik University, run as a double degree with Molde University in Norway. It carries 120 ECTS credits. Students spend the first year at Molde and the second at Reykjavik. Exchange study and distance learning are not offered.
The programme examines sport management from legal, ethical, financial, organisational, historical, political and psychological perspectives. The page notes that the industry is growing and that expectations of professionalism among those leading sport organisations keep rising. The double degree prepares students for management positions in sports bodies and in other areas of business connected to sport.
Graduates should understand quantitative and qualitative research methods and the main concepts and theories of training and exercise physiology. They also gain skills in planning, management and strategy in coaching and sport, and in measuring the condition and progress of athletes. Practical placements with sports clubs and federations in Iceland are available.
