The programme trains dental hygienists to provide oral hygiene services directly to patients and to take part in wider dental health promotion within an institution. Study covers the biomedical causes of dental disease, how to work with diagnostic dental equipment and materials under infection-control rules, how to complete professional documentation and prevention plans, and how to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies. Coursework spans anatomy, physiology and pathology, pharmacology, biochemistry and genetics, dental materials, preclinical work with phantom models and the prevention and epidemiology of dental disease, followed by a professional internship covering teaching oral hygiene, clinical procedures and direct patient work. Optional subjects allow further study in areas such as dental radiology, children's dentistry, orthodontics and periodontology, and the programme concludes with a professional bachelor's thesis and final examination.
