Overview
This one-year programme educates pedagogues able to work competently in formal and non-formal educational institutions. The fifty-four-credit curriculum centres on general pedagogy, general didactics, pedagogical psychology and planning the educational process, combined with thirty credits of placements covering pedagogical assistance, cooperation and activity practice, a final thesis, and electives such as special pedagogy, creativity-development strategies, pedagogical management and law, or ICT in education. Students learn to apply pedagogical-management and didactic principles when planning lessons, explain psychological regularities and apply them in practice, design and carry out research into their own pedagogical activity, and choose learning technologies suited to pupils' special needs. Assessment combines a cumulative score, in which the examination counts for half the final mark, with intermediate colloquia and self-study assignments graded on a ten-point scale. The programme runs under a cooperation agreement between several Lithuanian universities, and graduates can work in schools, vocational institutions, higher education or non-governmental organisations, with the right to continue into second-cycle master's studies in education.
