MA/MS in Illustration and Contexts

Illustration and Contexts is a full-time master's programme at Vilnius Academy of Arts, lasting two years and carrying 120 credits. It is designed for people who already hold a bachelor's degree in art and want to refine an individual illustration style on the way to a professional career as an illustrator. The course treats the illustrator as an artist whose visual language, self-promotion and communication grow out of illustrative thinking. Students concentrate on their own stylistic voice and on the technologies behind it, combine different media in technical solutions, and treat the internet as a principal channel for circulating illustration. Illustration is examined in several settings, including art, business, education and society. Master's research can look at the specifics of future work as a freelance or an employed illustrator, so that the thesis connects directly to the kind of practice the student intends to pursue after graduating.
