Activities of teaching and learning: Lectures, workshops and self-study Methods of assessment of learning achievements: Principles of assessment criteria: • unbiased treatment, objectivity and collegiality. i.e., assessment is conducted by the commission of teachers of the Department. Assessment is conducted a day before the final review openly and with participation of students. During the review, the final results of achievement assessment are approved by the Commission of the Department teachers. • Principles of clarity and usefulness, i.e., clear and public assessment system is understandable to evaluators and the evaluated. Students are familiarised with assessment criteria at the beginning of the academic year, discussing the first assignment. Preliminary evaluation, process of students’ work, discussions about links of work results with study outcomes are held during public interim and final reviews. Students are presented with opinion of the Department teachers, public discussions are held. The principle of accumulative mark is only partially applied: i.e., during interim reviews the consistency of the process is assured, sometimes a cumulative mark may consist of assignments given to students to perform in certain stages during the semester. The assessment of knowledge and skills of all programme subjects is based on ten point critical evaluation system: Composition of the assessment grade. A 10-point assessment system (10 – excellent, 9 – very well, 8 – good, 7 – fairly good, 6 – satisfactory, 5 – sufficient, 4-1 – insufficient) is applied to assess knowledge and skills of students of the study programme. The most important criteria include: innovative thinking and non-ordinary solutions, motivation for self-dependent expansion of the field of theme limits and personal progress, professionalism. The criteria for the assessment of students’ achievements are linked to the learning outcomes of the Programme. The criteria of assessment system are based on: • principles of validity and reliability that are appropriate for objective and comprehensive evaluation of student achievements. The final mark consists of: A (20%) – substantiation of idea (formulation of the problem and substantiation, its topicality, researches, methods of solving, conclusions); B (20%) – creation of conception of project design and primary sketching; C (30%) – implementation of idea – solution (including a provisional model); D (20%) – quality of presentation of idea, presentation of assignment (graphic part of the project, screen presentation) E (10%) – consistency of the progress of the projecting process (consulting, deadlines of assignment performance); • components of the final assessment score allow evaluating cognitive (parts: A,B,E), practical (parts: B,C,E) and transferable skills (parts: C,D,E). The assessment of semester creative assignments will be carried out by the lecturers of Visual communication design programme. The opinions and recommendations of the department lecturers’ will be presented to master’s programme students, public discussions will be held. Master’s programme students, taking into consideration LR law on Protection of personal data, will be informed about their assessment personally. The final creative project is evaluated by the commission that consists of the lecturers of Graphic Design and other departments, invited artists and scientists and is approved by VAA Rector after the application of the Higher studies faculty dean. While evaluating, the commission should take into consideration speciality study subjects assessment criteria. Assessment criteria are public, presented in study programme, they are indicated in project work draft programmes and VAA information system.
