Overview
This programme trains professionals to create cartographic products and develop and use geographic information systems for analysing and visualising geographical processes, with particular emphasis on spatial cartographic analysis and presentation. Subjects move from cartography basics, geodesy and topography through geomorphology, landscape geography and thematic cartography to remote sensing, mobile GIS, land planning with GIS, and cartographic generalisation, with electives in open-source GIS or Python programming. Coursework also covers the ethics and legal basis of geographic information and land use, closing with a fifteen-credit Bachelor thesis. Teaching combines lectures, practical work and seminars with individual and group problem-based assignments, assessed through coursework, tests and practice reports. Graduates can work in cartographic and topographic companies or municipal offices, progress from GIS technician to senior cartographic editor roles, and qualify for the national land surveyor certification exam.
